Today I found a tire, Arlene. Last week I acquired two hubcaps and a bit of metal. Though jagged, I think I can file it down. Around here glances all are sideways, but around you, tender — my absence pains me madly, much more than their small eyes. And there is so much beauty in these stacks of five-gallon buckets. Sometimes at night, I marvel how they wait, not even knowing what they'll be. Sans you, this fire (warm and illegal) keeps me company, but this tent has walls as tenuous as the knowledge of you. I'm almost ready — I've almost got all the pieces I need to get back, Arlene.
